Use: FT GOLD is a synthetic roofing underlayment designed for use in steep slope roofing as a secondary layer of protection. It is approved for installation over plywood or OSB with proper fasteners on roof slopes 2:12 and greater. FT GOLD is an air, vapor and water barrier with <1 Perm and therefore should be installed above a properly ventilated space. It is designed for use under primary roofing products such as; asphalt or synthetic shingles, metal, tiles, slate, and primed cedar shakes.
Preparation: Deck surface should have no voids or damaged areas, and be clean, dry and clear of any debris or any sharp protrusions.
Installation: Underlayment is to be laid out horizontally with the printed side up using 4″ horizontal laps and 6″ vertical laps. For prolonged exposure where driving rain or strong winds are expected it is recommended to double the overlaps. For low slope applications between 2:12 to 4:12, it is recommended to overlap 50% plus 1″.
Fastening: It is recommended to install underlayment with corrosive resistant 1” plastic or metal cap-nails or cap-staples. All anchoring fasteners should be flush (90 degrees to the roof deck) and tight with the underlayment surface and structural roof deck. Un-capped staples or standard roofing nails may be used if the primary roofing material is installed within 48 hours (Unless heavy rain or high winds are expected). Note: Use of un-capped fasteners may result in a possibility of blow off or leakage around the fasteners.
Exposure: For short term coverage (48 hours) underlayment can be fastened using every other anchoring position in the field of the product. For extended exposure fasten using every anchoring position as printed on the product. Product should be covered by primary roofing material within 180 days of application.
CAUTION: Read Good Safety Practises Below:
Good safety practises should be followed on steep slope roofs, such as use of tie-offs, toe boards, ladders, and/or safety ropes and personal body harnesses. Slip resistance may vary with surface conditions from debris, weather, footwear and roof pitch. Always follow Safety instructions, Building Codes, and Safe Work Practices issued by local Government bodies (e.g. OSHA/WCB/CNESST). Failure to use proper safety gear may result in serious injury.
